Creating Second Chances for Formerly Imprisoned Women

Creating Second Chances for Formerly Imprisoned Women

The journey after leaving prison can be very difficult. How do I know this? In the year 2015 I walked out of a Maximum prison here in Kenya to rebuild my life after six months of imprisonment. It was not easy getting life back on track, I faced a lot rejection, stigmatization from the society and could not get a job. I had nowhere to go but live with my relatives.

The challenges of finding work and supporting my 4-year-old daughter did not make it any easy. Having gone through these challenges I decided it was a high time, this changed. I made a decision that I will support those who leave prison so that they may not go through what I went through.

The idea to journey with those who leave prison was born so that these women do not opt to go back into prison but find solutions and alternative ways of earning an income, to live meaningful lives and take care of their children

One woman's voice.

Six months ago we gave *Wanja  a single mother of 2 US$100 to sell second hands clothes at the local market. She says"life has really changed for me and my two girls, I am able to buy food and take care of my daughter's daily needs. This was not the case 2 years ago when I was selling liquor, always hiding from the police and not knowing what tomorrow holds. I am really greatful for this support. Thank you very much."

How can you support us

We want to raise US$1000  to support 10 women with $100 each to set up small businesses and break the cycle of poverty and imprisonment.

However any amount towards the $1000 will truly be appreciated. You can donate US $5, US$ 10 $20, $50, $80 or $100 towards creating second chances for formerly imprisoned women.

We will share stories of how the lives of these women has been transformed by your generous contribution and support. Thank you very much.

Restore dignity and hope for formerly imprisoned women who are rebuilding their lives post imprisonment.
